Jesus Walks on Water

I have the last two lessons out of sequence.  That's what happens when you go on vacation and then try to catch up!  So, Jesus walking on water comes before His Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem.  I'm not including an Easter lesson because at our church we have a sunrise service and no Sunday School that day.

Here's the lesson on Jesus' Walking on Water.

Print these out on card stock.  I usually cut them out prior to the class because the younger children have a hard time cutting them out.  Then, color your masterpiece!

Here is the lesson. It's pretty wordy. So, often, while I like having the entire story down, I'll paraphrase the story.

 

The craft, found at the craftingthewordofgod website.  Depending on your kids, either you can cut them out and have the kids just color them, or have the kids color and cut them out.  I used card stock to print this page.

Lazarus!

What a wonderful story!  Jesus' good friend Lazarus is dying.  Lazarus' sisters Mary and Martha send word to Jesus that His friend is ill, but instead of coming immediately, Jesus takes His time going to their home... and by that time, Lazarus is dead.  Not only dead, but has been in the grave 4 days.

"If only".... That's what the sisters say to Jesus... "If only you had been here, dear Lord, our brother would still be alive."  But, Jesus tells them that Lazarus will live again.  The sisters misunderstand and think He means when they are all together in Heaven one day.  Jesus tells Lazarus to come out of his grave, and he does just that!

 There are so many lessons to learn from this story... God's timing is not our timing... Trust God even in the darkest situation... And, God is all-powerful... omnipotent!  He can do anything!

 My Sunday school kids loved dressing each other up as Lazarus with the toilet paper.  What fun! 

Bring several rolls of toilet paper... because everyone wants a turn at being Lazarus!

If you have a lot of kids in your Sunday School class, you might want to draw lots to see who will be Lazarus in each group.  Here's a page I made.  Just cut the pieces apart and put however many you want in each team... blank notes go to those who help 'shroud" Lazarus and the picture of Lazarus goes to the lucky kid who gets to play that part.

I haven't figured out how to embed a pdf file into the blog, but this is a jpeg.  You can drag it to your desktop publisher piece of "paper" and cut out the pieces.

The Craft

I again apologize for not being able to figure out how to insert pdf files into my blog to make it easier to do the crafts.  But, if you can transfer this page to your pictures and then pull it onto a page and enlarge it, that would work as well.  If your kids are old enough to cut them out themselves, that's great.  They love working with scissors and it will save you a lot of time in preparation.  The mat is below left with places for holes with the hole punch.  The long strips to cut out are to make Jesus and the paralyzed man into paper dolls.  Just cut those slits and insert folded strips so that they will stand up.

Nicodemus and how to be born again

We had a lot of fun making our caterpillars... which wove around themselves a chrysalis... and then emerged as a butterfly.

I wish I could say I was original in making that a wonderful example of what it means to be "born again", but alas, I am not.

I found the craft at www.cutesycrafts.com     Go to that site and you can upload the pdf files for the chrysalis, butterfly and caterpillar.

I simply printed the chrysalis and caterpillar on green construction paper and then printed the butterfly on plain while paper.

I'm sure just about every child has at one time or another read "The Hungry Caterpillar".  What a wonderful example of what it means to be born again.  When Jesus comes into our hearts, He doesn't just make us a better person.  He makes us a new creation!

On www.cutesycrafts.com,  she put the caterpillar on one page.  I was able to put several on one page to make printing easier.  You may be able to save this picture and drag it over to your own print shop publisher software to print a page of several caterpillars at one time.

I love seeing the caterpillar peeking out of his chrysalis.
