God Makes You Fishers of People

Christ Picks His Disciples and makes them Fishers of Men

This was a fun craft to do for a wonderful lesson.  Jesus picks His Disciples.  He doesn't pick the most well-known, the wealthiest, the most talented men in the community.  He picks men who might not have been thought of as being prospects to be the Messiah's closest confidantes.  He chooses the ordinary people.... like us.

The craft is pretty time-intensive.  It took about 3 hours to put it all together, but the kids love it and play with it even after that day in Sunday school, which is in itself pretty remarkable.

I have collected pictures of the kids throughout our ministry together, so I lined up their their pictures in about 1 inch squares and printed them on card stock.  After cutting them out, I applied magnets strips to the back.  I got the magnet strips in the fabric department of Hobby Lobby.

I found dowel sticks very inexpensively at a well known discount store, Ollie's, along with the magnets I used for the tips.  I hot-glued those together and put a little bit of card stock around it to make it a little sturdier.

The kids fished for the people in their class.  I played this game with my 3-year-old grandson and it loved it.  We would pick up a person's square and lay it to the side, announcing to the world that we had fished that person for Jesus.

Here I am, enjoying the game myself!

Even little 3-year-olds can enjoy the game and catch the meaning.

So much fun!

You'll see some of the kids fishing for their peeps with the faces down, but the magnet can pick them up either way.

Here's the fishing pole

Little 1 inch squares of the kids' pictures.

What fun!

Just looking at the pictures of their friends is kinda cool.

Fishing on the floor...

I hope you are interested in doing this craft and lesson for your kids in Sunday School.  It's a good bit of work, but well worth it.
