Thanksgiving Turkey Headdress Fun

We had so much fun making these headdresses.  I went ahead and made up the feathers with the things that we should all be thankful for:  family, friends, Jesus, animals, home and food.

Our Scripture verse is 1 Thessalonians 5:18  "In everything give thanks..."  That's all the kids need to be aware of.  In everything, give thanks.  I told them the story about Corrie ten Boom when she and her sister Betsey were in the concentration camp.  One day they were having a Bible study, and they were studying this very Scripture.

Betsey said, "Thank You, Lord, for the fleas!"  To which Corrie said, "Betsey, there are many things I can thank the Lord for... that you and I are together and that I was able to smuggle this Bible into the concentration camp, but I cannot thank Him for the fleas."

The next day, a female guard in the concentration camp came by the barracks, but didn't walk in.  The women were having a Bible lesson, and the guard could have punished them or taken their Bible away.  The guard said, "I can't go in there.  They're covered in fleas!"

Betsey just looked at Corrie and smile.

Thank You, God, for the fleas.

We forget to thank God for everything.  One day on Facebook, someone posted a picture with the caption, "What if you woke up tomorrow with only the things for which you thanked God today?"  Interesting thought... and I'm trying to impress that upon the kids.
